What We Do

Market Central is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2003 that engages the Charlottesville City Market community through educational programs and outreach. Throughout the market season we hold various cooking classes and demonstrations, keep vendors and patrons up-to-date with bi-monthly newsletters, and promote vendors through farm tours, on-line profiles, and marketing. We also aim to increase patronage of the City Market through the national SNAP program, advertising and outreach to under-represented communities, and helpful market shopping tips.

We have a table and tent set up each Saturday at the City Market and each Wednesday at Meade Market, near the Parks & Rec Market Managers tent.  Market Central is not responsible for operating the market nor for assigning locations or collecting money.  

Market Central relies on generous donations from those vested in the Charlottesville City Markets.  Your contribution helps support our programming to continue providing classes, outreach, and financial assistance to all those connected with the Market.

We welcome your support! A tax-deductible donation to Market Central programming enriches the community three times over.  The SNAP nutrition incentive coupons extend access to healthy food to families in need, thereby contributing to better health and lower healthcare costs.  At the same time, the extra produce sales at the market help keep local farms sustainable.  And finally, the diversity of vendors, customers, and activities, such as market demonstrations and our annual farm tour, enriches the experience for us all.

A strong farmers market is the backbone of the local food economy and a unique identifier for the community.
