MARKET CENTRAL is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to
preserving and enhancing the markets sponsored by the City of Charlottesville.
MARKET CENTRAL believes that we can’t effectively chart a course for
the future of the market without knowing more about its customers and vendors. This is precisely why MARKET CENTRAL is partnering with the UVA Jefferson Public Citizen students, who conducted scientifically valid research this summer as part of the JPC program. The first round of data is being analyzed -- you’re invited to see some of the results, and to express your comments, concerns and ideas for the future market. Check out the survey and results here.
What’s next in the permanent home discussion?
The newly formed Charlottesville Market District Alliance (CMDA) has formally asked City Council to support the vision for a downtown market district in Charlottesville.

We've also invited City Councilors to join us at the Charlottesville City Market to hear market customer & vendor concerns about the future location for the market. There will be a RFP before Council on May 21 in follow-up to the Task Force recommendation last year. Market Central has hosted Councilors for some 'face time' with the market community, and Councilors Dede Smith, Kathy Galvin and Kristin Szakos have taken their turns, having lively and productive discussions with market patrons and vendors.
